Los Angeles – This August, Bonhams will present the third annual The Art of Hawaiʻi sale, a themed auction celebrating Hawaiian artists and their works that capture the beauty and spirit of the Hawaiian Islands. Taking place on August 6 in Los Angeles, the sale will feature a myriad of notable works by notable kamaʻāina artists including David Howard Hitchcock (1861-1943), Lloyd Sexton, Jr, (1912-1990), and Hon-Chew Hee, to name a few.
Leading the sale is Hanalei Valley, Kauaʻi, 1925 by David Howard Hitchcock (1861-1943), estimated at $250,000 – 350,000. Other standouts include, Lily, Hawaiian Dancer by Madge Tennent (1889-1972), estimated at $100,000 – 150,000, and Gathering Flowers by Arman Tateos Manookian (1904-1931), estimated at $10,000 – 15,000.
Additionally, six paintings by Lloyd Sexton, Jr. (1912-1990) including Puako Ponds, 1968, estimated at $40,000 – 60,000; Kawela Bay, Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi, 1972, estimated at $12,000 – 18,000; and Punaluʻu, Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi, 1968, estimated at $12,000 – 18,000 will also be offered in the sale.

• November, 1963 by Betty Ecke (Tseng Yu-Ho) (1925-2017), estimated at $20,000 – 30,000.
