A large famille-rose fanghu-form 'dragon and phoenix' vase

Qianlong seal mark, Republic period
Sturdily potted with broad sides and a sloping neck set with a pair of openwork archaistic scroll-form handles, the two principal sides dominated by a peach-form panel enclosing a dragon or a phoenix, respectively, the narrow sides with a leaf-form panel enclosing a 'crane and lotus pond' vignette, boughs of flowers and auspicious fruits filling the spaces around the cartouches, diaper borders above and below, the base with a six-character seal mark in underglaze blue.
