A pair of carved spinach jade screens

20th century
Each of the identical pair carved in high relief with figures in an exuberant garden setting with a gazebo sheltered under trees rising behind rocks surrounding a winding river, the upper corner carved with two seated figures in conversation, while two scholars and their attendants sitting or standing by a large table enjoying a civilized leisure time, the lower section depicting a sage crossing a bridge followed by his attendant, the reverse side inscribed with a four-line poem heightened in gilt; each mounted to a wood frame reticulated with leafy scrolls (one wood frame with losses).
