A yellow glazed slip decorated porcelain stick neck vase

Mid to late 20th century
The globular body tapering into a cylindrical neck and covered by a delicate slip-decorated tableau of quail amid bamboo and plants on a pale yellow glaze, the base with makers' mark reading Zhongguo Jingdezhen zhi in underglaze blue.

Zhongguo Jingdezhen Zhi marks started to appear on porcelains soon after the founding of the People's Republic in 1949, often on works of high quality. See the exquisite eggshell porcelain example signed by Yu Wenxiang offered as lot 603 in sale 18981 in our London rooms 10 November 2011 with Zhongguo Jingdezhen zhi in iron red, or the blue and white bowl in the style of Wang Bu with a Jingdezhen zhi mark offered in our former San Francisco rooms as lot 8162 in sale 23486 19 December 2016.
