The painting bears a collector's seal of the dramatist Xiong Shiyi (Hsiung Shih-i, 1902-1991), most famous for the success of his play Lady Precious Stream, a runaway stage hit in the 1930's. Later residing in Hong Kong, his life and work are the study of a recent biography by Da Zheng Shih-I Hsiung: A Glorious Showman.
