Weng Shouqi was a pupil of Weng Tonghe (1830-1904). He obtained a jinshi degree in 1891 and later served in Guangxi province. He had a keen interest in studying ancient bronzes and epigraphy, and he excelled at landscape painting and authentication of art. His publications include Han tong yin fan kao.
Wang Tongyu, who used the courtesy names Wenruo, Shengzhi, and sobriquet Xuyuan, was a native of Suzhou. Wang Tongyu passed the exam in 1899 obtaining a jinshi degree. He served multiple positions in Jiangxi and Hubei province. As a literati scholar, Wang Tongyu was also an avid book collector, artist, and connoisseur. His painting style followed the Four Wangs; his calligraphy took the models of Ouyang Xun and Chu Suiliang of the Tang Dynasty. Xuyuan cang shu mu is among his publications on the ancient books he collected.
