Jiang Yun, who used the courtesy name Yinsheng, sobriquet Daxiong shanmin, was born in Anhui provenance. He earned a juren degree in 1891. His painting style is considered in the lineage of the Orthodox school, closely following the early Qing master Wang Hui (1632-1717).

The artist once taught Xiao Xun (1883-1944), who was one of the founding members of the Chinese Painting Research Association. Comparing to the Monumental Landscape by Xiao Xun, sold from the Reverend Richard Fabian Collection on 30 November 2020, Bonhams Hong Kong lot 627, the current album is a great example showing the stylistic connections between the teacher and student, such as the color scheme and composition.
