A celadon jade plaque

18th Century
A circular form plaque, carved in low relief, one side with three rams, reversed with an inscription in seal script reading San Yang Kai Tai, referencing the obverse, the terminal head with clouds and a pierced opening.

Three rams or goats (sanyang) together with a rising sun (taiyang) form the rebus 'three young beget prosperity' or Prosperity in the springtime' (sanyang kaitai).
