AN UNCUT APRICOT GROUND EMBROIDERED SILK YARDAGE FOR A COURT ROBE

Late Qing dynasty
Embroidered in satin stitch and couched gilt thread to depict dragons amongst scrolling clouds bats and shou roundels, on a an attractive apricot colored ground.

清晚期 杏黃地雲龍紋袍料

The apricot orange yellow fabric indicates that this robe--when created--would have been worn by the designated heir apparent. Another apricot ground uncut robe, with the 12 symbols of Imperial authority, was sold in our London salesroom 14 May 2015, lot 291.
