Note: Henri Hoppenot (1891-1977) served as the secretary at the French legation in Beijing from 1933 to 1937. He was considered, to those who knew him, a particularly courteous and cultured man, "(who had) a passion for art and literature, and an almost religious devotion to culture." He was a great art connoisseur in his own right, and as seen in the sale of his private collection on 9 April 1991 by Parisian auction house Binoche et Godeau, his interest in culture spanned a wide range of subjects from the works of Picasso and Modigliani to sculptures by Alexander Calder to Far Eastern paintings and works of art.

☐☐魁梧乎，其器☐☐☐乎，其心☐蚤，蜚英於桂殿，夙☐姓於☐☐。進則著卓魯☐☐績，有以康濟乎斯民；退則踵廣受之芳躅，有以表率乎後人。誠賜時之瑞鳳，實盛之世祥麟。概英☐兮，竟☐覩遺像。☐☐☐☐☐獲雲之有子，而衍慶於☐☐也耶。侯姓鄭，諱☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐華冑，由科目歷仕明☐☐馳聲☐☐☐☐☐，以☐☐☐家。厥子鄉貢進士☐，與予同遊太學，同事地官，將以拜瞻遺像，景仰英風，敬作贊以遺後昆。
時成化元年龍集乙酉（1465）新正之旦，鄉貢進士舜江華誠拜贊。

註：亨利·奧普諾（1891-1977），法國外交官，一九三三至三七年駐任北京總領事秘書。據其友人回憶，奧氏彬彬有禮，且涵養深厚，「鍾愛藝術及文學，並對文化孜孜不倦」。奧氏身故後，夫婦二人的收藏於一九九一年四月九日在法國巴黎Mes Binoche et Godeau拍賣行釋出，藏品包羅廣泛，從畢加索、莫迪利亚尼及亞歷山大·考爾德到東亞藝術，本幅亦在其中，充分體現奧氏對世界藝術的興趣與熱誠。
