款識：
三牛圖。
牛也，力大無窮，俯首孺子而不逞強，終生勞瘁，事農而安。不居功，純良溫馴，時亦強犟，穩步向前，足不踏空。皮毛骨肉無不有用，形容無華，氣宇軒宏。吾崇其性，學其品，愛其形。故屢屢寫之不倦。一九八七年歲次丁卯龝。可染畫於師牛堂。
牛！春夏秋冬汗水流，泥濕透，田野綠油油。牛！朝出耕耘日落休，身何索？五穀給人留。牛！徹夜反芻為金秋，心何盼？萬頃報豐收。海岩詞十六字令。可染再題。

原藏家上世紀九十年代初購自新加坡海鷗畫廊

註：海鷗畫廊一九七八年成立於獅城，由著名報人蔡建奕（b.1916）創辦，在新加坡極富盛名。早期以經營近現代名家書畫為主，蔡氏與李可染、啟功、劉海粟等皆有過從，並在上個世紀八十年代為多位中國畫家於新加坡舉辦個展。二〇〇三年，海鷗畫廊結束營業。
