Corporal John Neish was born at Rothenay, near Banff. He enlisted into the 15th Foot at Banff on the 18th April 1798, aged 18. He served a total of 20 years and 221 days until 24th November 1818. He served as a Private for 19 years and 158 days and a Corporal for 1 year and 63 days.
He was discharged at Halifax, Nova Scotia in consequence of being worn out and impaired hearing.
