A carved amber snuff bottle

1780-1880
Of rounded rectangular form, its neck slightly narrowing towards the subtly convex lip, rounded oval foot ring, finely carved in relief to one side with a phoenix holding a peach branch in its beak while perched on a peach tree rising behind a pierced rock, the reverse depicting a phoenix swooping down to a blooming tree and serrated rocks; the warm honey-toned matrix with crazing webs.
