A well carved cameo agate snuff bottle

1750-1860
Well hollowed, of rounded square form with a slightly spreading neck, flat lip, splayed short oval foot ring, utilizing the thin layer of russet inclusions in the stone, carved in low relief to one side with a monkey holding a banner inscribed with the characters shanyuan delu (the performance of good deeds will inevitably lead to eventual rewards), the reverse undecorated, exhibiting a natural dark spot of perfect circular form to the upper central section.
