Robert Zhao is a young multi-disciplinary artist from Singapore. Working from his passion about the natural world and narrative abilities, he developed a story-like strategy in his works to investigate the relationship between human and animals. Although his works are drawn from observations, they are not direct documentation. Instead, he uses his photography as the foundation to construct a complex and layered amalgamation of fact and fiction that toys with the way
people accept 'truths'.

A Realised Dream: Experiment #2 is an image of tropical parrots warming up under a heating lamp during the middle of winter in Spain. The idea of zoos controlling and displaying nature fascinates the artist, who finds it both seductive and disturbing to see tropical parrots in Europe during winter time or polar bears in equatorial Singapore.

His works are preserved in the Singapore Art Museum, UBS, Statoil Art Collection, United Overseas Bank and The Kadist Art Foundation, also in private hands.
