A red ground silk brocade formal court robe, chaopao

17th century
The upper section woven with two opposing four-clawed dragons in profile chasing flaming pearls surrounded by a narrow lishui frame, each of the extended sleeve sections decorated with an additional dragon striding above turbulent waves that repeat to the horizontal band woven across the pleated apron.
