Lot 1232

1874-CC $20
Medium yellow-gold with honey highlights, and with bold mint frost in some of the protected areas. The fields do not show the usual barrage of handling marks, just light ticks and lines from normal circulation. Sharply struck and well balanced for the grade assigned. It is interesting to note that this coin brought a substantial premium for the date and mintmark back in the 1950s when it was last sold to the consignor. One of just a few Carson City double eagles that can be located in just about any grade save for the high end of Choice or Gem quality. (PCGS 8971)
