REPETORIUM JURIS.
Latin manuscript on paper, [Repertorium juris], incipit "A Ista diction denotat separationem ut notatur...." [Southern Low Countries, 1450s/1460s.]
270 leaves recto and verso (including final blank), complete, double column, 46 lines, brown ink, gothic bookhand with some cursive features, written space 196 x 145 mm, paragraph marks in red, opening 7-line intial in red and blue with penwork infill, 19 2- to 10-line intials in red. Period blind-stamped calf, remnants of clasps. Some dampstaining, heavy at ends and with loss to first leaf and on final three leaves (the final leaf about a third lacking and the final blank half lacking), rebacked, covers crazed, partial loss to blind-stamped title (name?) on lower cover.
Provenance: Petrus Cappellanus Morantinus (early ownership inscriptions on both pastedowns); Dr André Rooryck (his MS.4, sold Sotheby's, July 5, 2005, lot 72).
EXHAUSTIVE LEGAL DICTIONARY, POSSIBLY A UNIQUE EXEMPLAR, SIGNED BY THE SCRIBE / AUTHOR [?], comprising over 5000 entries under 541 main entries, arranged alphabetically. The partially defective colophon reads "completum per me sim[onem lam]brechts presbiterum, teste ma[...] atque in Decretis l[...], with the signature "Lambr[echt]" with an "S" entwined around the "L." No scribe Simon Lambrecht is recorded by the Benedictines of Bouveret. The text cites Baldi de Ubaldi, Johannes Andrea, Azo de Romanghis, Bartolus de Saxoferrato, Johannes de Lignano, Anton Batrio, and many others.
