Able Seaman Frederick William Hutchings died on 6th Ocober 1917, aboard HMS Begonia. He is commemorated on the Portsmouth Memorial. He was the son of Mr and Mrs F.W.Hutchings of Woodford, and the husband of Mrs G.E.Hutchings of Harold Villa, Woodville Road, South Woodford, London.
H.M.S. Begonia set off on a cruise in merchantman's guise from which she never returned. Her crew numbered about 100 officers and men.
