Edinburgh – A rare decanter of the Macallan Lalique 55-year-old was the top lot at Bonhams Whisky sale in Edinburgh on Tuesday 7 December, selling for £82,960. Numbered 412 out of a limited edition of 420, the decanter came in a presentation case accompanied by a crystal stopper. It had been estimated at £65,000-85,000.

Martin Green, Bonhams Head of Whisky in Edinburgh, said, "Released in 2007, the 55-year-old was the second in the famous Macallan Lalique Six Pillars collection and is much sought after by collectors around the world both for its rarity and quality. We had anticipated stiff competition for the decanter and were not disappointed."

Other highlights included:
• Bowmore-38 year old 1957. Sold for £9,760. Estimate: £8,000-10,000
• Glenfiddich Goodwood-42 year old 1979. Sold for £7,930. Estimate: £8,000-10,000.
• The Macallan 1950. Sold for £6,710. Estimate: £5,000-5,5000.
