The hexagonal diaper on this vase was popular in Song and Yuan dynasties, and it was sharpened by carving after casting. Compare a bronze 'garlic head' vase with similar concentric hexagonal diaper, which was excavated in Haining, Zhejiang, illustrated by M.Wang, 'Song Yuan Fanggu Qingtongqi Shang De Wenyang', in Shoucangjia, October 2010, p.48, pl.11. The high-relief ornament on the neck are related to that on the beaded necklace of Buddhist figures during the Yuan to the early Ming dynasties. Compare a gilt-bronze figure of Vajrasattva, Yongle, with beaded necklaces, illustrated in Classics of the Forbidden City: Sculptures in the Collection of the Palace Museum, Beijing, 2012, pl.200.

The leafy scroll on the present vase is in the style of the early Ming dynasty. Compare with a gilt-bronze figure of Sakyamuni similarly decorated on the stand with a leafy scroll in the British Museum, illustrated by C.Clunas and J.Harrison-Hall, Ming: 50 Years That Changed China, London, 2014, p.227, fig.195.
