Edward Wilkinson is Global Head of Indian, Himalayan & Southeast Asian Art. Based in London, he oversees the category's auctions in New York, Hong Kong and Paris.
Joining Bonhams in 2011, Edward has established the Indian, Himalayan & Southeast Asian Art department as a market leader in the field due to a strong focus on scholarship and curated single-owner auctions. His exceptional sales include the auction record-breaking Tibetan brass figure of Canda Vajrapani (HK$49.2 million), the Sonnery Kurkihar Buddha (HK$21.9 million) and Untitled by V.S. Gaitonde ($1,685,000).
Edward has also curated numerous themed and single-owner auctions, including The Maitri Collection, Portraits of the Masters and masterpieces from the Nyingjei Lam Collection. Currently, he is organising the touring exhibition of The Claude de Marteau Collection ahead of the sale of the collection in 2022 and 2023.
Before Bonhams, Edward was Head of Indian, Himalayan and Southeast Asian Art at Sotheby's in New York, where he sold the Paul F. Walter Collection of Indian painting, the Goldman Collection of Himalayan Art and established world records in Indian painting and Gandharan sculpture. He was also Executive Head of Lawson's Asian and Tribal Art department in Sydney. Edward has served as Vice President of the Oceanic Art Society and as a committee member of the Oriental Rug Society of New South Wales, both in Sydney. From 2009-15, he served as Chair of the Southern Asian Arts Council at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
