Simon Cottle is Managing Director of Bonhams regional operations both in Europe and in the US, where he is responsible for an extensive team of representatives and their staff.
Simon joined Bonhams in 2007 where he initiated specialist auctions of British and European glass and paperweights which have come to dominate the international scene, making Bonhams market leaders in these categories. Simon is the published author of several books on Ceramics and Glass and is a Fellow of the Guild of Glass Engravers, Hon. President of the Glass Circle, and a Fellow of Corning Museum of Glass, New York. While continuing to consult on glass, since 2010 Simon has been responsible for developing Bonhams European regional office network and more recently that of North America.
After 10 years as a decorative arts curator, he joined Sotheby's in London in 1990 as a Director and auctioneer where he ran the European Ceramics and Glass department until 2007. An acknowledged leading international specialist in European glass from the Renaissance to 1900, during his long career, Simon has made many significant discoveries in glass, several of which have produced world-record prices at auction.
Simon graduated from University College Cardiff and Washington State University with an honours degree in History, as well as gaining a postgraduate degree in Museum and Art Gallery Studies from the University of Manchester.
