Raphael Machiels

Raphael joined the European Ceramics department at Bonhams in 2024 after working for a leading New York dealer in eighteenth-century porcelain. Prior to specializing in decorative arts, he worked for a contemporary design gallery in London. In addition to working in the art market, Raphael has undertaken research projects for decorative arts institutions such as the Bard Graduate Center Gallery, New York, and Musée Carnavalet, Paris. He has written for the French Porcelain Society and the Design Edit, and has lectured for the London Ceramics Circle.
He holds a B.A. (cum laude) in Art History from Leiden University and a M.A. in the History of Decorative Arts, Design, and Material Culture from the Bard Graduate Center.
