Philip Kantor

Philip Kantor is Bonhams International Chairman for Motoring.

A British national from birth, Philip went to University College London where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree after leaving Public School. He has had a lifelong passion for cars, developing this from his car collecting enthusiast father and family. The archetypal collector and enthusiast he also has an avid interest in motoring memorabilia, fieldsports, sporting guns, watches, wine and cigars.

Introduced to the auction scene at a young age due to his family's varied collecting interests, he has always enjoyed the auction process. Using his multi-linguistic skills and contacts to secure top quality consignments and sale venues on the continent. He joined Christie's in 2000, where he ensured the success of Retromobile's first sale in the newly opened French market with the sale of the Lüscher collection in 2002. He has subsequently been responsible for the sale of many highlight lots in the UK, Europe and America.

Since joining Bonhams in 2007 he consigned the ex-Froilan Gonzalez Ferrari 375 Plus, the Maserati Boomerang and the Prym Mercedes-Benz 500K spezial roadster to mention just a few. A well-known and formidable presence with a keen eye for quality and detail, he is a regular competitor in numerous rallies including the Tour Auto and attends events ranging from Le Mans Classic and Goodwood to modern Le Mans. He has supervised preparation of his own cars to concours winning, but practical, standards and still retains several which he uses on a regular basis. Philip is director of the Zoute concours d'Elégance and a class judge at both Chantilly and Paleis Het Loo.
