Iris Miao joined Bonhams as senior international consultant in October 2013. She is responsible for the collection, authentication and appraisal of paintings and calligraphic works for the bi-annual auctions in Hong Kong.

Prior to Bonhams, she worked
at another international auction house in Hong Kong and in New York as Head of Department. In 2011, Ms. Miao spearheaded the first dedicated classical Chinese paintings sale in New York since 1998. The following year she achieved a total of US$52,000,000 for two sales. Ms. Miao has handled a number of significant collections including the Ching Yuan Zhai Collection of Professor emeritus, James Cahill and several important masterpieces by artists of the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, among which a number of paintings that were once in the Imperial collection of Emperor Qianlong (1735-1795) fetched record prices. In addition, an exquisite album by Zheng Min (1633-1683), sold for over USD2.3M, is now in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Ms. Miao has taken a strategic approach to curating our bi-annual sales with a focus on quality
rather than quantity, with pieces that are fresh to the market and of impeccable provenance. The Hong Kong saleroom has grown quickly into an exciting and credible source for fine paintings, with the year 2017 turnover reaching over HKD100M.
