John Millensted is a Specialist in Coins, Military Medals, Banknotes and Militaria. John was educated at military college, prior to studying at King's College, University of London.

Over the years, John has handled many illustrious items and several high-profile coin collections, including the Clarendon collection which was sold over two days. In addition, he has been involved with the sale of Victoria Crosses, not only in London, but also Toronto and Sydney. In 2016, John was privileged to sell the medals and archive of Captain Eric 'Winkle' Brown, who is considered Britain's greatest pilot.

Prior to Bonhams, John worked at several blue-chip companies including BAT and Tesco, the latter within logistics. He joined Phillips Auctioneers in 1994 at its Bayswater saleroom in the Works of Art Department, moving to the Coin and Medal Department as a Junior Specialist in 1995. He joined Bonhams when the two companies merged in 2000.
