One-off Chinook Inspired Land Rover Reports for Duty at Bonhams

A specially commissioned, bespoke version of the beloved Land Rover, honouring 40 years' active service of the Chinook helicopter in the RAF, will be offered in the forthcoming Bonhams Goodwood Revival Sale on Saturday (17 September), in aid of The Royal Air Forces Association.

The 2013 Land Rover Q40 Defender 110 XS by TECNIQ is a one-off edition of the automotive stalwart, extensively redesigned, rebuilt and re-engineered by British specialists TECNIQ, to improve the performance, dynamics and efficiency, with a military approach to attention to detail.

Exterior styling cues from the aircraft include hand-finished camouflaged bodywork, with carbon fibre accents including grille and a subtle graphic representation of the Chinook's twin-rotor design on the rear of the vehicle, inspired by the aircrew's flying suit badges.

Inside, the Q40 Defender features submarine lighting and twin-zone seating with Chinook-style leather and sheepskin upholstered seats in the front 'cockpit', while the rear seats are finished in a lighter grey, echoing the Chinook's load area. Further back, the luggage compartment uses actual webbing from the load bay of the Chinook.

The engineering brief for the project included an upgraded chassis with all-new suspension, powered by a Mustang-derived Ford EcoBoost 2.3-litre engine delivering 307bhp, coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission. An all-new suspension features programmable dampers, upgraded anti-roll bars and lowered coil springs.

This special charity lot, estimate £120,000 - 180,000, also includes a visit to the exclusive RAF Club in London, plus a genuine RAF Chinook crew flying suit. For further information or to register to bid, contact: [email protected]

A Unique Lenticular Image 'Avro' Lancaster over Beachy Head', offered to raise funds for 617 Squadron (The Dambusters) 80th Anniversary Appeal, estimate £10,000 – 15,000

The Bonhams Goodwood Revival Sale also offers another fund-raising lot for RAF-related causes: a unique interactive 'lenticular' artwork of a 617 Squadron (Dambusters) Lancaster Bomber aircraft, offered in aid of the Dambusters' 80th anniversary appeal.

The 116 x 150cm image features the Lancaster aircraft appearing to move across its background of Beachy Head as the viewer moves – the only image of a Lancaster aircraft in this format.

Donated and created by Jim Dooley Living Pictures Ltd, (chairman of fundraising for the much-acclaimed RAF Bomber Command Memorial in Piccadilly), the artwork is mounted with signatures of eight members of 617 Squadron, including Johnny Johnson and Leonard Cheshire.

Malcolm Barber, Chairman of Bonhams, said: "We are delighted to be offering this fantastic, unique work in aid of this most worthy cause."

The work will raise funds for a stained-glass window, commemorating 617 Squadron, at St John the Baptist Church in Scampton, Lincs, where the crews were based and from where they flew their famous Dambusters mission, Operation Chastise. This year marks the Squadron's 80th anniversary.

The successful bidder will also receive a letter from 617 Squadron Association confirming the picture's authenticity and with an endorsement by Guy Gibson VC., plus an invitation to the Dambusters 80th anniversary dinner. Estimate £10,000 – 15,000.

The Bonhams Goodwood Revival Sale takes place on Saturday 17 September from 10.30 Automobilia (motor cars from 13.00) in the Bonhams marquee 'Over the road' at the Goodwood Revival meeting. All lots will be available to view on Friday 16 September (09.00 to 18.00) and from 09.00 on the Saturday.
