Oleg Vasiliev Painting Takes Off at Bonhams Russian Sale

LondonFlight - In memory of Boris Sveshnikov by Oleg Vasiliev (Russian, 1931-2013) was the top lot at The Russian Sale at Bonhams New Bond Street, London yesterday (Wednesday 1 December), achieving £150,250 against a pre-sale estimate of £30,000 - 50,000.

Daria Khristova, Director of Bonhams Russian department, commented: "Flight - In memory of Boris Sveshnikov by Oleg Vasiliev is an enticing work, expressing one artist's influence on another. Serene yet powerful in its symbolism, it is no wonder this work soared in the saleroom."

Other highlights of the sale include:

• Nikolai Petrovich Bogdanov-Bel'sky, (Russian, 1868-1945), Young Boy With a Balalaika. Sold for £100,250.

• Petr Petrovich Konchalovsky (Russian, 1876-1956), A Street in Ryazan, 1931. Sold for £87,750.

• Nikolai Efimovich Kuznetsov (Russian, 1876-1970), Dancer. Sold for £75,250.

• Konstantin Alexeevich Korovin (Russian, 1861-1939), Paris. Sold for £62,750.

• A Silver-gilt and Plique-à-jour Enamel Imperial Presentation Tankard. Pavel Ovchinnikov With Imperial Warrant, Moscow, Circa 1889. Sold for £44,000.

• Konstantin Yuon (Russian, 1875-1958), Main Entrance, Troitsky Monastery. Sold for £22,750.
