Extensive Selection of Rare Madeiras at Bonhams Fine Wine Sale

The aged roué from the 1959 Flanders and Swann comic song Have some Madeira, m'dear would find plenty to tempt him at Bonhams Fine Wine Sale in London on Thursday 24 September which features a wide selection of rare vintage Madeiras.

Bonhams Global Head of Wine and Master of Wine, Richard Harvey, said, "Vintage Madeira has a loyal and passionate following of collectors fascinated by its history and I'm very excited to offer such a large choice in this sale, which includes the last bottles from Patrick Grubb's very fine cellar."

Highlights include:

• A bottle of Blandy's Malvasia, Fajã dos Padres 1839. Estimate: £1,500-1,700

• Six bottles of Dr Manuel José Vieira Sercial 1870. Estimate: £2,500-3,000

• Four bottles of Camara de Lobos Moscatel 1870. Estimate: £1,600-2,000

• A bottle of Cossart Gordon Bual 1895. Estimate: £700-800

The sale is notable also for a strong offering of red Burgundy including:

• Six bottles of Echézeaux 2000, Georges Jayer/Henri Jayer. Estimate: £18,000-22,000.

• Six bottles of La Tâche 2002, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Estimate: £18,000-22,000.

• Three bottles of Echézeaux 2013, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Estimate: £3,800-4,500.

• A case of Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru, aux Malconsorts 2016, Domaine Dujac. Estimate: 3,000-3,500.
