Los Angeles – An exceptional selection of portraits by artists such as Rembrandt Harmensz van Rijn, Henri Matisse, Andy Warhol, and Roy Lichtenstein highlights the sale of Prints & Multiples at Bonhams Los Angeles on October 15. The auction comprises of 200 lots spanning from the 16th to the 21st centuries and also features a variety of fine ceramics by Pablo Picasso. The public exhibition will open at Bonhams Los Angeles galleries from October 11-14.

The portrait section is led by Nude Reading by Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997); relief print,1994 (estimate: $100,000-150,000). Nude Reading is part of The Nudes Series, one of three emblematic series Lichtenstein worked on towards the end of his life. Additional portraits include Andy Warhol's Marilyn Monroe (Marilyn), 1967 (estimate: $80,000-120,000) and Liz, 1964 (estimate: $30,000-50,000) some of Warhol's most sought iconography of celebrities; Rembrandt Harmensz van Rijn's (1606-1669) Self-Portrait with Saskia, 1636 (estimate: $20,000-30,000); and Jeune Fille assise au Bouquet de Fleurs (D. 438), 1923 by Henri Matisse (1869-1954) (estimate: $15,000-20,000).

The variety of fine ceramics by Pablo Picasso includes Service Scènes de Corrida, a set of 7 partially glazed plates, 1959 (estimate: $50,000-70,000); an Engraved Bottle,1954, partially glazed white earthenware clay vase, painted in white, black and beige (estimate: $15,000-20,000); and Wood-Owl, 1969, white earthenware vase painted in brown and black (estimate: $9,000-12,000).
