At Inaugural Bond Street Event

On 29 November, Bonhams New Bond Street saleroom was packed with supercars, classic cars and inspirational women. The inaugural event showcasing the achievements of women in the world of motoring was attended by more than one hundred guests and hosted four impressive speakers.

Photographer Amy Shore, Motorcyclist and adventurer Elspeth Beard, McLaren engineer Amelia Lewis and racing driver Jamie Chadwick all shared their experiences in an informal panel discussion led by Andy Barret and Poppy McKenzie Smith of the Bonhams motoring department. The discussion touched upon everything from mental health in competitive situations to the increasingly political world of motor racing, and questions from the floor raised conversations on topics such as female identity in STEM and the fearsome female racing drivers competing at Brooklands in the 20s and 30s.

Poppy McKenzie Smith commented: 'We were simply blown away by the support for this event. Initially we expected to have about 20 guests, but had RSVPs from more than 150 in the end. Our speakers shared some incredibly personal insight in to their diverse experiences in the world of motoring, and each raised some fascinating points.

Andrew Barrett added: 'It was a fantastic evening that we hope lifted the lid on the experiences of women in motoring and showcased some of the fascinating career options that are open to women in the automotive sector. We are already planning our next event, which we hope will take place at the end of March.'
