Balloon Girl, a screenprint in black and red, by Banksy, 2004, sold for an impressive £87,500 at Bonhams Prints and Multiples sale yesterday (26 June). The work had been estimated at £40,000-60,000.

Other works by Banksy also exceeded their estimates; No Ball Games (Green) achieved £28,750 against a pre-sale estimate of £12,000-18,000 while Pulp Fiction, a screenprint in colours from 2004, made £23,750, with a pre-sale estimate of £10,000-15,000.

Head of Prints and Multiples, Lucia Tro Santafe, said 'The high prices achieved yesterday for works by Banksy in our Prints and Multiples sale reinforces his importance in the contemporary art market and his global appeal.'

The market for modern prints is also very strong and highlights included:

- Pablo Picasso (Spanish, 1881-1973), Pichet à glace, 1952, sold for £60,000 after a pre-sale estimate of £30,000-50,000

- Pablo Picasso, La Tauromaquia, 1959. The complete set of 26 sugar-lift aquatints sold for £40,000, estimated at £25,000-35,000

- Joan Miro, Francesc d'Assis, Cantic del Sol, 1975. The complete set of 33 etchings and aquatints in colours sold for £17,500, estimated at £10,000-15,000

- Robert Longo, Men in Cities, 1990. The complete set of 5 lithographs, sold for £43,750, estimated at £22,000-32,000
