London, New Bond Street

The international auction house, Bonhams is to sell the private art collection of the celebrated sculptor and artist, Antón Casamor. The Contents of a Catalonian Villa sale will take place in London on Wednesday 11 April.

Antón Casamor lived and worked all his life in Catalonia. A friend of Salvador Dali, whose artistic influence he absorbed, he was a leading exponent of Noucentisme, the cultural movement that flourished in the early part of the 20th century as a reaction against modernism. Casamor made his reputation as a master sculptor, and his works can be found in international collections, as well of course, widely throughout Spain - the figures of Saint Joseph and Saint James made for the façade of the Baroque Cathedral in Girona, are among his best known public commissions.

In his villa close to Girona, Casamor displayed his renowned collection of art and antiques, boasting wonderful Italian and Spanish paintings, sculpture and furniture dating from the 12th century to the 20th. It is this collection that is being sold at Bonhams on 11 April.

Among the highlights are:

The Madonna and Child with the patron Saints of Modena: Saints John the Baptist, Peter the Martyr, George and Geminianus from the studio of il Guercino. The original work is now in the Louvre. (£20,000-30,000)

The Annunciation attributed to Francisco de Comontes, an artist from Toledo active in the early to middle years of the 16th century. (£20,000-30,000)

• A Sicilian 15th century alabaster figure of the Trapani Madonna, (£15,000-25,000)

The Archangel Michael by an unidentified 16th century artist of the Spanish School (£10,000-15,000)

The sale will also include several sculptures by Casamor himself.

All items estimated at £3,000 or below will be sold without reserve.

Bonhams Director of Private Collections, Charlie Thomas said, "Casamor's life and work were rooted in his native Catalonia, where he enjoyed great success as a sculptor. He was also famous for his collection of art and sculpture which adorned his villa near Girona, and which Bonhams is selling in April. The sale is a wonderful opportunity to acquire pieces that inspired the artist, and, indeed, works by the master himself."
