Extremely Rare Jamaican Independence Rum at Bonhams Wine and Spirits Sale

London – An extremely rare bottle of Appleton Estate Rum, specially bottled on 6th August 1962 to commemorate Jamaica's independence features in Bonhams Fine and Rare Wines & Spirits sale in London on Thursday 28 April. It is estimated at £2,000-3,000.

Jamaican independence, the sixtieth anniversary of which is being marked this year, came after nearly 470 years of colonial rule, first by the Spanish and later as part of the British Empire.

Diego Lanza, Bonhams Senior Spirits specialist, said: "According to records, Appleton Estate's passion for Jamaican Rum crafting began with the first distillation in the Nassau Valley in 1749. This bottle is an extremely rare survivor of a limited number released on the 6th August 1962. to celebrate independence from Great Britain. As rare as it is historic, this is a real collector's item."
