Very Rare Unopened Case of Legendary Latour 1961 Tops Bonhams London Wine Sale

London – A rare, previously unopened, case of the legendary Château Latour 1961 sold for £51,240 at Bonhams Fine Wine sale in London on Thursday 9 December. It had been estimated at £30,000-40,000.

Richard Harvey M.W, Bonhams Senior International Director of Wine, said: "Château Latour 1961 is an iconic wine and keenly sought-after. It's now very rare to find an unopened case so I was not surprised at the strong interest in this lot before and during the sale nor the high price it achieved."

Other highlights of the sale included:

• A dozen bottles of Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage 1990 from a private collector, sold for £20,740 (estimate £14,000-17,000). Four bottles of the 1978 vintage, from the same cellar, sold for £8,784 (estimate £6,000-7,000).

• Nine bottles of Vosne-Romanée aux Malconsorts 1999, Domaine Sylvian Cathiard sold for £7,320 (estimate £2,800-3,200).

• Six bottles of Salon Le Mesnil Blanc de Blancs 1996 sold for £6,710 (estimate £4,500-5,500).
