The majesty that is Château Mouton Rothschild, journey's back to its origin in the 1800's when acquired by Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild, however it was not until 1922 when the estate was handed over to a then young, 20 years old Baron Philippe de Rothschild, great grandson of Baron Nathaniel. Today the name Château Mouton Rothschild, "the ram", is held in the highest esteem as one of the finest estates in the world, with the ambition of making Mouton a place of art and beauty which can be witnessed worldwide.
Château Mouton Rothschild spans 90 hectares of vines to the north-west of Bordeaux, on the edge of the Médoc peninsula, itself situated, as its name indicates, in medio aquae, amid the waters: those of the Gironde estuary to the east and of the Atlantic Ocean to the west. However, the Chateau Mouton Rothschild vineyard is mostly situated on a hill called the 'Plateau de Mouton'.
Avid collectors of the finest wines are well versed in the past fabled vintages to arise from Bordeaux, and one that is considered of gargantuan proportion is that of the 2000 vintage, perfect for both banks. This vintage is clearly of legendary status.
The bottle itself is somewhat unique, with Mouton venturing out from their traditional labels, being illustrations of artwork by leading painters. For the 2000 bottling, the astonishing intricacies of the "Augsburg Ram" are achieved by a particularly complex method of gold engraving onto the bottle, which in turn has produced a quite beautiful spectacle with scintillating texture. The bottles alone are collector's items.
The 2000 Château Mouton Rothschild Nebuchadnezzar (15 litre) is the epitome of rarity with only a very few ever produced, where a truly legendary and profound wine meets the quite remarkable and unique bottle artistry.
