L'histoire américaine dans le bois
It is our honour to present the American Folk Art Collection of Bob and Anne Levine. Decades in the making, their unique collection contains an impressively wide range of one-of-a-kind items, all attentively carved from wood in styles evolving with the times' aesthetic sensibilities. Varied in terms of both age and the subjects depicted, many examples from the collection are contemporaries or near contemporaries of their subjects' place in the long and complex history of our nation. Beginning with Leif Erikson's arrival in Newfoundland and ending with the September 11th attack on New York's World Trade Centre, the history of the United States is captured here in the handiwork of those who built and continue to build it.
Previews Feb. 20th to 22nd, Skinner Marlborough, Massachusetts, 10:00 AM - 4:30 PM, or by appointment.
Special thanks to photographer Kenneth Kast and Bob and Anne Levine for allowing us to use the images in their book, American History in Wood: The Levine Folk Art Collection.
