Patricia Mainardi is a professor of 18th and 19th Century Art for the Graduate Centre at City University of New York. She has authored several books and she remains keenly interested in the relationships between institutions, patrons and states during these eras. Her books include Husbands, Wives, and Lovers: Marriage and Its Discontents in Nineteenth Century France. Yale University Press, 2003 and The End of the Salon: Art and the State in the Early Third Republic.Cambridge University Press, 1993; pb 1994.
