Large Seymchan Meteorite Cube
Magadan District, Russia

Originally, Seymchan was believed to be an iron-nickel meteorite; however, recently olivine crystals were found in parts of some of the Seymchan meteorites, making it a far more rare pallasite. Discovered by a geological survey party near the Hekandue River in Magadan District, Russia, Seymchan contains olivine crystals - actual gemstones from outer space - indicating its origin near the mantle/core boundary of a differentiated planetary body. The present very large specimen has been fashioned into a cube shape, exhibiting the polished and etched Widmanstatten crystalline structure of the interior of the meteorite, along with the distinctive olivine crystals which are visible on every side. It is rare to find an iron-nickel cube this large but to find a much rarer pallasite cube this large is a very uncommon offering indeed. Weighing 4,470 grams; Measuring 9.8 x 9.8 x 9.8 cm
