An early 18th century Anglo-Dutch walnut veneered week going longcase clock

The walnut veneered case with rectangular hood, foliate pierced sound frets to top and sides, glazed door flanked by two half-turned pillars, the 27 cm. square blue velvet covered brass dial with silvered cherub spandrels to the corners, silvered Roman chapter ring with fleur-de-lys half-hour markers, signed Thomas Rudkin Amsterdam, subsidiary seconds ring below XII, steel pierced hands, central alarm setting disc, recessed date aperture above VI, the brass week going movement with turned pillars, weight driven going train, hour strike on one bell, separate weight driven alarm train mounted to the side of the movement. With four brass covered lead weights, pendulum and keys.

  • Thomas Rudkin, apprenticed in London in 1673 and made free of the Clockmakers' Company, active in Amsterdam at the Beursstraat around 1680-1715. Rudkin is mentioned in the 1704 Dutch register of 'Good Men. Rudkin died in 1715.
