Footnotes

  • The AIM-9 Sidewinder (Air Intercept Missile-9) is a short-range air-to-air missile which entered service with the US Navy in 1956 and subsequently was adopted by the US Air Force in 1964. Capable of a top speed of Mach 2.5 with an operational range up to 22 miles, using infrared homing (or semi-active Radar homing in some models) the Sidewinder has proved to be an enduring international success, and its latest variants are still standard equipment in most Western-aligned air forces.

Saleroom notices

  • SALEROOM NOTICE: We have received further information since the printing of the catalogue, that this is not an AIM-9 Sidewinder missile as catalogued, but rather a combination of a 'PHIM-POD' missile body fitted with Sidewinder fins. One of several produced for a surplus dealer.
