Footnotes

  • Introduced in October 1967, the DBS employed a widened and lengthened version of the DB6's platform-type chassis adapted to accept a De Dion rear axle. Aston Martin had always intended the DBS to house its new V8, but the car first appeared with the 3,995cc six of the concurrently produced DB6. Bigger and more luxuriously appointed than the latter, the heavier DBS was, inevitably, slower, though the Vantage version's 140mph-plus top speed and 15-second standing quarter-mile time were highly respectable figures nonetheless.

Its accompanying copy guarantee form reveals that this DBS Vantage was delivered new to Switzerland finished in Silver Birch with black Connolly leather interior. Non-standard equipment included power assisted steering; a Radiomobile radio; Continental parts kit (Vantage engine); two headrests; Fiamm horns; Walpres wing mirrors; rear safety belts; and Marchal fog lamps. In March 2000 the DBS was offered for sale at Brooks' Geneva auction (Lot 164) where it was described as "a one-owner car, Swiss-registered from new" that had been rated "one of the very best" by Aston Martin specialists Roos Engineering, who had maintained it since 1975. It was also stated that the car had covered c.60,000 kilometres at that time, with the odometer now reading 79.870 kilometres. The current vendor purchased the car at a French auction in July 2010. The related invoice is on file together with a Swiss Carte Grise (issued 1998) and an Aston Martin V8 Owner's Manual. This DBS is a rare left-hand-drive European delivered car and is in good overall condition. It would benefit of minor aesthetic work and a mechanical inspection.
