Footnotes

  • Bigger and more luxuriously appointed than the DB6, whose 4.0-litre straight six engine it shared, the heavier DBS disappointed some by virtue of its slightly reduced performance, but there were no complaints when the V8 arrived in 1969. With an estimated 345bhp available from its 5,340cc, fuel-injected, four-cam motor, the DBS V8 could reach 100mph in under 14 seconds, running on to a top speed of 160mph - a staggering performance in those days and one which fully justified the claim that it was the fastest production car in the world. Even in automatic transmission form the V8 could reach 100mph in around 15 seconds and 145mph flat-out.

The production DBS V8 chassis number sequence commenced with '10001', making this early manual-transmission car the 161st example of this landmark model built. Unusually, this car's accompanying copy guarantee form does not record the original colour scheme; it does, however, list the following items of non-standard equipment: air conditioning; Waso steering lock; door mirrors; and extra carpets for the footwells. The DBS was delivered new to France via the local Aston Martin importer, Garage Mirabeau, and sold new to a Mr Dullieux of Bapeaume-Lès-Rouen.

In March 2000, the Aston was offered for sale at Brooks' Geneva auction by John Bindefeld of Paris, who had owned the car since October 1975. It is understood that the current vendor purchased the car at a French auction in July 2010. Unfortunately, nothing else is known of its history and the only accompanying documentation is a cancelled French Carte Grise in John Bindefeld's name. This is a rare French delivered left hand drive delivered DBS V8, with an interesting colour combination and fully original interior but requires significant mechanical and cosmetic work. The odometer reads 65,725 KM
