Footnotes

  • The futuristic looking V-Rod 'muscle bike' represented a radical departure from the norm for Harley-Davidson when it arrived in 2001. True, it was a v-twin cruiser like the American company's traditional products but it looked like no other Harley before it. At the V-Rod's heart was a water-cooled double-overhead-camshaft engine – H-D's first such power unit in a road bike – that was closely related to the Porsche-developed unit in the VR1000 racer. Coupled to a five-speed belt-drive transmission, the engine went into a curvaceous tubular frame that located the fuel tank beneath the seat, the 'tank' being a cover for the air box, while the front forks were raked out in true cruiser style and complemented by the de rigeur forward-mounted foot-pegs and high 'bars. Harley's newcomer was designated 'VRSC' (V-twin Racing Street Custom) and suffixed 'A' to indicate that it was the first of what would turn out to be a sizeable family of derivatives.

Delivered new to Switzerland, this particular V-Rod has had only one owner from new: the German former Formula 1 driver Nick Heidfeld. Nick's first Formula 1 experience was gained in 1998 when he was signed by McLaren-Mercedes as a test driver, and he would go on to compete in motor racing's premier category for Prost, Sauber, Jordan, and Williams. He raced with the BMW-Sauber team from 2006 to 2009, with a best finish of 5th overall in the 2007 World Championship, and ended his F1 career with Lotus in 2011.

Finished in the rare colour scheme of Black Cherry Pearl, this Harley-Davidson V-Rod has covered a mere 1,319 kilometres since delivery and is presented in 'almost new' condition throughout. It was last serviced in February 2021 at 1,319 kilometres and was submitted for the Swiss roadworthiness test (MFK) on 18th February 2021. The machine is offered with the owner's manual; two keys; and the original Swiss Carte Grise in Nick Heidfeld's name.
