ATOMIC BLAST-ENGRAVED LIGHTER.
Sterling silver lighter case, 1950s, engraved with an atomic mushroom cloud above a map of Eniwetok Atoll, verso engraved with trio of palm trees on an island shore, 55 x 35 mm, stamped "Sterling 950" on bottom.
Provenance: from the collection of Lt. James Gaylord, director of Lookout Mountain Laboratory, with his original passport.
Eniwetok Atoll (now Eniwetak Atoll) was the site of multiple nuclear tests including Sandstone, Greenhouse, Ivy, Castle, Redwing and Hardtack I. Gaylord, as director of Lookout Mountain Laboratory, filmed many of the major atomic tests of the era.
