  • The Saab 96 Monte Carlo 850 is a celebrated rally car that was produced in homage to Erik Carlsson and Pat Moss for their victories at the Monte Carlo rally circuits in 1962 and 1963. The car featured a longitudinally mounted 841cc engine that was uprated with triple carburettors and oil injection, putting out 57bhp. A modified cylinder head and filled crankshaft counterweights helped give the engine a higher compression ratio, and therefore more power. Externally, the Monte Carlo is distinguishable via special Monte Carlo badges, unique front seats and rear bench, special door cards, wood trimmed steering wheel and dual chrome strips on the side.

This 1965 Monte Carlo is an excellent example that was recently imported from the USA in 2016. It is in a very good condition inside and out, and it was also recently refurbished by Carvetix in 2020. The engine was also fully rebuilt by Graham McDonald. The mileage currently stands at 80,000 which is low for a car of this age, and the engine is now running and driving very well following its rebuild. This is an excellent example of a rare and unique homologation special edition rally car.
