* Prototype car used for press demonstrations - with history
* Coachwork restored to excellent standard
* Many spare parts including two complete interiors Jaguar produced 9,378 two-door XJ coupés with a pillarless hardtop body between 1975 and 1978. The car was originally shown at the London Motor Show in October 1973, and this prototype being offered is body number 5J1002. A very significant car as it heralds the teething troubles of this model - window sealing and roof problems were resolved with much development work and by covering the roofs of the production cars with vinyl. The coupé was based on the short-wheelbase version of the XJ and is a very elegant and unusual gentleman's sporting car.
This example was used by Jaguar as a press demonstration car and thus would have been carefully fettled to give the best impression of the new model. There are letters on file confirming its press loan usage.
Restoration has commenced on this example and the bodywork - the hard work - has been completed to a high standard; the coachwork is described as being straight and the car is presented in a primer coat, which allows prospective buyers to properly judge its condition. There is a wealth of spare parts including complete leather and cloth interiors and numerous receipts from Jaguar specialist parts suppliers such as David Manners.
