8vo (197 x 120 mm). Engraved title vignette, 3 engraved anatomical plates on 2 leaves. Contemporary vellum. Covers lightly soiled and bowed, some pages heavily browned, library stamp on title, penciled marginalia.
Provenance: Library of the Medical and Chirurgical Faculty of Maryland (bookplate on front paste-down); William Alexander Greenhill [British physician, 1814-1894] (ownership inscription on free front endpaper, dated 1852).

FIRST AND ONLY ILLUSTRATED EDITION. This anonymous 5th century Byzantine anatomical treatise was first published in 1616, translated into Latin by Peter Lauremberg. The 1744 edition includes "two reproductions of a naked body seen from the front and back, and of a human head .... Other editions of the Introductio Anatomica do not contain these figures" (Choulant-Frank, p 43). The work also contains De corporis partibus et mensuris by Hypatus (Georgius Sanginaticius), translated by Triller. Choulant Handbuch p 129.
