Footnotes

  • To upgrade the appearance of the dial; several gold versions of the Submariner and GMT Master were fitted with gold chaton markers in which the luminescent was placed, instead of the regular directly applied luminescent dots and batons as found on the steel versions. The use of applied chatons to the dial has created the affectionate nickname 'nipple dial' amongst Rolex enthusiasts.

The current example is further interesting by the unusual way in which the dial has aged. With an almost chalk like effect this style of dial has earned the nickname of an 'earth' dial.
